Nicaragua

Post by Mzerin » Tue Nov 07, 2017 4:46 pm

On the 18th of November I’m going to Nicaragua with bridges to community Canada to build two houses.

The guy in the video at the beginning wearing a green shirt and glasses is my boss.

So far myself and two other women from the office who are going on this trip have raised over 14k

That's awesome, Erin.

It'll be a very rewarding experience, and possibly quite humbling too. Good on you, and your co-workers.
How long will you be there for - and do you need any special skills - and who's looking after Marley?

We go for a week. It only takes four solid days to build the house, during the trip we are broken into two groups so two houses are built in that time. When I say “house” it’s one room no bathroom not kitchen no electricity no running water but to these families it’s amazing!!! The house is about half the size of a single car garage.

One of the families we are building has 9 members 6 are adults!!! Imagine sharing such a small space.

No special skills are needed but I’ve been told it’s hard work, they do everything by hand so mixing concrete should be interesting... the charity has a local builder who coordinates every ones jobs, and apparently the town people come and help because it’s exciting for the town.
My boss built the school and hospital there too.

It will be a very humbling experience for me, living in Australia and Canada I’ve experienced a very luxurious lifestyle in comparison.

Safe travels, hated laying cinder blocks when I was younger, a decent pair of glove would do your hands justice.
